How Many Men Want To See "Sex In The City"
Posted:Wednesday, 05/14/2008 at 07:05am by Tommy Edwards
Judging by some of the articles I've been reading, not too many men want to see this film. You can include me in this group. No thanks! I'm not a fan. I like Kristin Davis and Chris Noth. Both are pretty good actors and I like their characters.

How many of you guys want to see the film and why?

How many of you guys don't want to see the film and why?

Some Concert News
Posted:Friday, 05/09/2008 at 05:05am by Tommy Edwards
Madonna is booked into the United Center on October 26th and tickets go on sale on Saturday, May 17th. I figure they'll add additional shows because you know this one show will sell-out quickly.

Tina Turner's concert dates for Chicago have been announced. She'll perform at the United Center on October 3rd and the Allstate Arena in Rosemont on October 6th. Tickets will have gone on sale on May 12th.

Rod Stewart says he doesn't plan on retiring anytime soon. The Rock n Roll Hall of Famer admits that if he does bring his concert career to a close, he'd miss the stage. Rod says he will scale back some of his concert dates because he says it takes him away from his kids too long. Rod will begin his tour in July. He'll be here August 5th.

Blondie is celebrating the 30th anniversary of their album "Parallel Lines" by going on the road. They'll play at Lincoln Park Zoo on June 27th.

Larry Lujack In the National Assn of Broadcasters Hall of Fame
Posted:Thursday, 04/17/2008 at 06:04am by Tommy Edwards

The National Association of Broadcasters inducted my pal Larry Lujack into their very prestigious Hall of Fame to join the likes of other legends like Paul Harvey, Edward R. Murrow, Arthur Godfrey and so many others. I was very happy to help write and voice the introductory video and assist in writing the actual inscription on the beautiful plaque that will hang in the NAB Headquarters in Washington, D.C.

The night before the ceremony, we attended a dinner at a fancy restaurant at the Belagio Hotel and Larry wore his typical grubby clothes and $2 sandals from Target; but Larry really dressed up for the Hall of Fame occasion! He wore a grey suit, grey shirt and grey tie and if anyone thought he'd be humble in his speech, they got it all wrong. He was in great form.

But in everything he said, he was extremely funny. Nobody escaped his humor. Even the executives of the NAB were ribbed about not paying me for the video. He also complained about the fact his remarks had to be brief because Bob Pittman's keynote speech was long and boring. (Bob Pittman is a radio guy from Chicago who went on to be CEO of Century 21, CEO of America On Line and one of the founders of MTV. His speech was about the future of radio and how it will continue to grow because of its convenience to consumers)

Larry had the audience of about 1,000 people in stitches for the entire speech. We wanted it go on for much longer.

After the speech, Larry his wife and my wife and I spent some private time before he headed to the airport. He said he couldn't wait to get out of Vegas. "Four dollars for a cup of coffee!!" We had a great time.

Larry and I talk about once or twice a week but it was great spending time with him. We had lots of laughs.

If I can find a link to the video or any segments of his speech, I'll post it here later.

Ever Considered Body Piercing?
Posted:Tuesday, 04/01/2008 at 08:04am by Tommy Edwards
Pierced ears are very common. According to USA Today 50% of adults in the US have at least one pierced ear. I've worked for a couple of guys who have a pierced ear and my wife and daughters have pierced ears. About 2% of adults have a piercing on the face but not in the ears and 5% have a piercing somewhere on the body but not on the face.

Where does Dennis Rodman fit in these stats?

Is this something you've done or considered?

Baseball Season Is Here and Bulls Season is About Over
Posted:Monday, 03/31/2008 at 05:03am by Tommy Edwards
I doubt if the Bulls will make the playoffs. This has been a bad season all around and I think everyone wants it over.

But now it's baseball season and a time of renewal. Summer is right around the corner and the Boys of Summer are back on the baseball diamond and I'm ready to enjoy it.

What a winter we've had! And we all deserve to spend summer days and nights outdoors at Wrigley, US Cellular Field and all the parks in Chicagoland watching any kind of baseball or softball. I'm ready!

What Do You Think Of Those Harry Carey Ads
Posted:Tuesday, 03/25/2008 at 05:03am by Tommy Edwards
They are all over the TV and radio and I'm wondering what you think of them. According to press reports Harry's widow was unaware of the scope of the campaign and a fee was paid to Harry's estate for the rights to use an impersonator. One columnist in the "Sun-Times" said she was offended by the ads.

What do you think?

Is the Movie Business in Trouble?
Posted:Monday, 03/03/2008 at 07:03am by Tommy Edwards
With the Academy Awards having the lowest ratings in history, and movie theaters having smaller crowds this past weekend, I wonder if people are spending more time renting DVDs, watching movies "On Demand" or just opting to spending their entertainment dollars elsewhere.

This past weekend my wife and I went to a crowded restaurant for dinner and then to see "Vantage Point" starring Dennis Quaid and Forrest Whitaker. The theater wasn't near full and the number one movie this weekend was "Semi-Pro" starring Will Ferrell. That movie made only 1/2 of what Ferrell's last film "Blades of Glory" made on opening weekend.

So is it the economy? Or is it something else keeping people away from movie theaters?

Once again comments on this blog have a tough time getting posted so if you'd like to comment, please send an email.

Thanks!

I'm A Guy Who Loves Dogs
Posted:Thursday, 02/07/2008 at 08:02am by Tommy Edwards
And I'm a sucker for TV commercials that feature canines. I was surfing the net the other day and found a site for a particular dog-food company that had the coolest commercials on-line about dogs. If you know of other sites, please post a response and share it with me.

I'm not endorsing the dog food - just enjoying the dogs.

How About An Animal Stories Quiz
Posted:Saturday, 02/02/2008 at 01:02pm by Tommy Edwards
This is an actual quiz that Uncle Lar' gave me several years ago.

Let's see how YOU do:

What color is a polar bear's hair?

Think about it without looking down below for an answer. Then check to see if you're right.

===========================================================

I said at the time I was sure the polar bear's hair was white. But I was wrong.

The hair of a polar bear is transparent. The hair of a polar bear looks white because the air spaces in each hair scatter light of all colors. The color white becomes visible to our eyes when an object reflects back all of the visible wavelengths of light, rather than absorbing some of the wavelengths.

At one time it was suggested that the polar bear hairs might have some of the properties of optical fibers. Apparently this is not the case.
Scientists in the late 1970’s discovered another interesting tidbit about polar bears. A number of polar bears in zoos from around the world were turning green! These scientists discovered that the algae responsible for making the bears green were not on the SURFACE of the hairs, as originally supposed, but were INSIDE the hairs.

Who among you got it right?

Time Off Work For A Romance Breakup
Posted:Monday, 01/28/2008 at 08:01am by Tommy Edwards
That's what is available in Japan. Workers at a marketing firm have been told they can have time off if their romance ends. It's primarily for females. Women 24 and younger can have one day off per year. Women 25 - 29 can take two days of "Heartache Leave" per year and women 30 or over can take three days to reflect on the breakup.

And if your romance is in tact, you can take two mornings off per year just to shop some sales!

The story I read this morning doesn't mention why men are excluded from this opportunity.
